American University Of Malta License Extended For Five Years

The operating license of the American University of Malta has been extended for another five years.

Education Minister Clifton Grima revealed the detail following a parliamentary question from MP Rebekah Cilia.

AUM has long courted controversy, particularly given that its student population has remained relatively small despite promises.

Meanwhile, separate PQs have revealed that the government signed two contracts over the transfer of land for AUM during the summer.

An agreement to transfer land at Smart City to Sadeen Investments, which runs AUM, was signed on 29th August.

On 28th September, a separate contract was signed which saw AUM give up its claim on land in Xgħajra.

AUM and the role the government played in bringing them on board has long courted controversy, particularly after the institute, which had no background in education, was given large swathes of land in Bormla and Zonqor Point.
