Animal Activists Demand Maximum Penalty For Sliema Cat Killer

Activists from the Animal Guardians NGO have launched an online petition to pressure the courts to throw the book at cat killer Okamura Satoshi.
After Satoshi, a 31-year-old Japanese national, pleaded guilty to killing and mutilating a number of cats in Sliema, the NGO said that justice must be served – not just for the cats but for the “collective conscience of society”.
“Animal cruelty is a serious crime, and allowing perpetrators to escape with lenient punishment sends the wrong message, both domestically and globally,” they said.
Animal Guardians said that Satoshi should suffer the highest possible prison sentence and fine under Maltese law for each individual cat that he killed and tortured, and that the sentences for each cat be served consecutively.
They said that, after Satoshi has served his full prison sentence, he should be deported from Malta and banned from entering the country ever again.
Satoshi is set to be sentenced on 15th September.
