Animal Activists In Malta Call For Peter The Dog To Claim Reward For Now Debunked Story Of Him Sniffing Out Melvin Theuma

The government had pledged a €1 million reward to anyone who was able to provide information that would help the investigation into Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination. Animal activists want that money donated to Peter the sniffer dog.

Peter the sniffer dog is the very good boy you’ll no doubt by now know for having sniffed out a large sum of money at the airport, which according to several reports, led police to apprehending alleged middle man Melvin Theuma.

Lovin Malta has since been informed by sources close to the investigation that this was not the case. While Peter did indeed sniff out a huge amount of cash at the airport recently, the suspect wasn’t Theuma and never mentioned him when questioned.

Indeed, Theuma had been identified as the middleman bak in May 2018 and operations to pin him down had been underway weeks before the incident had occurred at the airport.

Theuma had been identified as the middleman back in May of 2018, and he was subsequently arrested for money laundering in connection with an alleged illegal lottery setup, but sources have confirmed that the plan was always made to arrest him in connection to Carurna Galizia’s murder.

Local activist Alison Bezzina, who runs the page I Will Not Go Away, is calling for the money initially pledged for information in the case to be donated to causes for stray animals in Malta.

“The sorry state of the Għammieri shelter is in much need of a total reboot,” the post reads, explaining that “visitors and volunteers are asked to sign forms prohibiting them from taking photos and videos of the place.”

Comments on the post all seem to be in favour of the notion, with one user saying that “if it were not for animal NGOs, our streets would look like streets in India full of stray animals and poop. So I would hope that this opportunity to give a reward like this would be seized.”

Should the government be making more of an effort in upgrading animal shelters in Malta?
