Another Maltese Band Club Bans Single Use Plastic! This Time In Mellieħa

As environmental protection continues to gain ever more precedence. Another local band club, Societa Filarmonica La Vittoria Mellieħa, has decided to ban the use of plastic ballon and plastic confetti.

Contacted by Lovin Malta, the President of the local club, Paul Mifsud, told the newsroom that the band club “is aware of the current national environmental awareness”.

Explaining that “during the activities and celebrations of the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady in Mellieħa, it is estimated that La Vittoria Band Club make use of over three thousand five hundred plastic balloons and plastic confetti”.

“After several internal meetings between the Administrative Committee and the La Vittoria Youth Commission, it was unanimously agreed” that the band club should “commit itself to do its part to safeguard the environment”.

Consequently “the following measures were taken to protect the environment: The banning of single-use plastic balloons during the feast celebrations and activities; The banning of plastic confetti; The banning of single-use plastic cutlery during the BBQ.”

The Imperial Band Club, the other major band club in Mellieħa, has also taken the move to ban plastic balloons.
