Architects Handed Suspended Sentence Over Miriam Pace’s Death
Two architects involved in the involuntary homicide of Miriam Pace have just been handed a two-year suspended sentence by Malta’s criminal court.
Pace lost her life in a tragic incident after her house collapsed back in March 2020 due to construction work being carried out next to her house.
Magistrate Joe Mifsud had already found architects Roderick Camilleri, 37, and Anthony Mangion, 73, guilty of causing Pace’s death through negligence and of damaging neighbouring buildings.
In the previous sentence, the two men had avoided prison time, with Mifsud initially ordering Camilleri to undergo 480 hours of community service and pay a €10,000 fine and Mangion to undergo 400 hours of community service and pay an €8,000 fine.
However, following an appeal filed by the Attorney General, Magistrate Aaron Bugeja increased the punishment earlier today, revoking the fines and imposing a two-year suspended prison sentence.
