At least 14 people have reportedly been arrested following a major drug haul at a warehouse in Birkiraka this afternoon.

TVM reported that a score of armed police officers from the Drug Squad the Rapid Intervention Unit and the Special Intervention Unit circled the warehouse in Triq il-Vittmi tal-Gwerraat around 11am and arrested everyone inside.

No official information on the people arrested is available yet, but TVM reported that the majority of them were Maltese, while others hailed from Italy and England.

The coordinated operation followed weeks of street surveillance by the Drugs Squad, who suspected the warehouse in question was being used to traffic drugs. Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is conducting an inquiry.
