There were dramatic scenes in Tower Street, Swatar this morning as soldiers and police officers flocked to a street in force and temporarily blocked off traffic.
The reason? A dummy dressed up as Pilatus Bank’s jailed owner Ali Sadr Hashemenijad was left outside the offices of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) overnight.
TVM reported that the soldiers were from the Bomb Disposal Unit and were called in because there were suspicions the dummy could have contained a bomb. The perceived threat was so severe that employees who work in offices in the street were told to remain outside until the dummy was removed.
#REZISTENZA action tonight @ FIAU #Malta. Why did FIAU Director Manfred Galdes resign after the Pilatus inspection? Was he allowed to do his job? Why did Acting Director Alfred Zammit send the 26th Sept 2016 letter to Pilatus? We want to know! #EndImpunityNow #DaphneCaruanaGalizia pic.twitter.com/SsqpJNAcM7

The dummy was placed outside the FIAU offices by an anonymous group called Resistenza Malta, which made headlines last month when it placed washing machines outside the offices of Pilatus Bank and the MFSA.
On its Twitter page, Resistenza Malta said it wanted to know why Manfred Galdes resigned as FIAU director two years ago, whether he was allowed to do his job, and what led his successor Alfred Zammit to give Pilatus Bank a clean bill of health in September 2016.
