As PN Supporters Celebrated, Bernard Grech Had To Deal With WhatsApp Argument Between MPs
As Nationalist Party supporters were celebrating reducing the gap, Bernard Grech was dealing with a random WhatsApp argument that erupted between two of his MPs.
Lovin Malta has seen a copy of a WhatsApp group chat among PN MPs on 9th June that Mark Camilleri initially reported on.
At around 6pm, Joe Giglio posted a Lovin Malta article from May about how PN MP Eve Borg Bonello had stuck a photo of Daphne Caruana Galizia to the back of her laptop with the words “kellha raġun“… “she was right” during a parliamentary sitting.
Adrian Delia was the first to respond, posting ‘??’ to question Giglio’s intentions.
“Well done, but these gimmicks did not help,” Giglio warned. “We have to understand that the party is above all and no one is greater than the party. Otherwise what we achieved today counts for nothing. I know that many people in this chat agree with me but will remain silent. However, I can speak freely because I don’t need politics.”
Borg Bonello fired back immediately with a snarky comment: “Ok, we are winning thanks to you. You’re right ;) “
“How sad,” Giglio retorted.
“Daphne was right and I will keep on believing in her, and that’s what we’re fighting for,” Borg Bonello responded.
“Eve, I know that Daphne was right. Joe’s point went beyond that. We need to stop playing for the cameras and truly work. I am tired of hearing that we have become a group of selfies. Eve, you are humble enough and I am sure you respect those who have a lot of experience. We have taken a step forward, now let’s work together for a greater victory with our leader Bernard Grech.”
Borg Bonello didn’t hold back though, telling Bartolo to “remind me who doesn’t publish selfies”.
Janice Chetcuti then stepped in to express her exasperation at the situation.
“Are we for real? Come on, history is being written out there and we all together form part of it. Let’s all get a grip on it and be there together.”
“That’s right, someone woke up in a foul mood,” Borg Bonello responded.
Here, Mark Anthony Sammut jumped in and urged his colleagues to enjoy the moment and find ways of working together to win a majority.
“I’m not the one defending criminals who the party makes statements against,” Borg Bonello said, in an apparent dig at Giglio. “That’s what embarrasses the party publicly. Thanks for your contribution.”
Ivan Bartolo (the former Mosta mayor) tried to build bridges between the two MPs.
It was at this point that Grech stepped in to tell his MPs to: “Please stop here all. This is not the place, nor the time.”
Borg Bonello complied and Robert Cutajar informed the MPs that he was going to close down the group.
However, Giglio kept on going, voicing his agreement with Bartolo.
“That’s the whole point. No one has the right to humiliate the leader and the party just to make some noise on social media. Sad. Discipline.”
“Are we going to keep going?” Borg Bonello retorted. “The leader just gave orders to cut it out and I followed. Are you special here?”
“Let’s stop,” Cutajar said, as the group was closed down.
