Attempted Murder Suspect ‘Had Been Waiting For Hugo Chetcuti All Day’

The man charged with the attempted murder of Hugo Chetcuti had reportedly been waiting for the Paceville mogul all day before stabbing him last Friday.

According to One News, several of Chetcuti’s employees have told the police that Bojan Cmelik had been in the vicinity since Friday morning and that the suspect had observed the Paceville businessman’s movements in detail over a drink before approaching him, hugging him, stabbing him twice in the stomach and running away.

This version of events is corroborated by CCTV footage gleaned from security cameras, which also shows that Cmelik had tried to cover his face with a yellow cap before approaching Chetcuti.

According to the report, investigators are now convinced that Cmelik was a hired hand, particularly since he didn’t utter a word during his interrogation and prosecution.

Bojan Cmeilk, a 35-year-old Serbian without a Maltese address, was prosecuted last week on charges of attempted murder, threatening and attacking police officers, disobeying their orders and carrying a knife without a license. He pleaded not guilty but has been remanded in custody.

Chetcuti underwent a second operation yesterday and, while he has taken a turn for the better, he is in critical condition. His hospital room is being guarded by police officers around the clock.
