Weakening the PN will mean all of Malta suffers the consequences of a weak parliament, leader Bernard Grech has said.

Speaking on the five-year anniversary of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination, Grech warned that there were figures within and outside the party that are trying to weaken the opposition.

“If you weaken the PN, you are also weakening the only party that can stand up to Robert Abela and his government,” he said.

He said that the recent sentencing of the Degiorgio brothers for the murder was just a small step forward and warned that Abela was also trying to silence journalists within a recent reform.

Grech has faced an uphill battle since becoming PN leader, losing the general election by a record margin. It has not been easy since and has faced criticism over a perceived apathy towards the party.

However, he insisted that the PN is working on crucial initiatives like the media reform, alleged corruption in the Marsa junction project, energy bills and the potential privatisation of the Gozo Channel.

Do you think the PN can bounce back from previous elections?
