Baħrija Double-Murder Weapon Reportedly Found In Van Of Prime Suspect

The gun that killed two men in Baħrija was found in the van of suspect Carmelo Ciantar, Newsbook Malta has reported citing police sources.
The weapon was said to be found in the van of the 72-year-old – known as ‘Id-Durga’ – who was arrested in Mosta for the murders of 57-year-old Anthony Agius from Rabat and Dennis Mifsud, 51, from Siġġiewi.
Ciantar, a Żebbuġ resident, was taken into custody by police around 8.30pm on Tuesday, approximately two and a half hours after the deadly shooting took place in the Tal-Kunċizzjoni area on the outskirts of Rabat. He was apprehended in the parking area of a supermarket in Mosta following a police manhunt.
He is not known to police as a criminal figure and at this stage, authorities believe the motive behind the killings is linked to a family dispute.
Police have confirmed that Dennis Mifsud was the son of Ciantar’s partner. While the second victim, Anthony Agius, was the husband of his partner’s daughter.
Both victims were found dead in an alley in the Tal-Kunċizzjoni area.
A magisterial inquiry, led by Magistrate Joe Mifsud, is currently underway. The police investigation is ongoing.
