Bernard Grech Calls For Silvio Parnis To Resign After Making ‘Disrespectful Declaration’
Newly-elected Opposition leader Bernard Grech called for Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Silvio Parnis’ resignation after the latter stated that no Maltese person has died from COVID-19 alone.
Parnis made this comment during an interview with TVM’s Extra, which was aired yesterday.
“It is an insult to the 41 victims of COVID-19 and the substantial amount of others infected everyday that the person tasked with protecting them is instead shrugging off responsibility,” Grech said in a Facebook post.
“Many victims’ families said that their relatives had no underlying health conditions, or had common conditions which one would expect to find in the elderly population.”
Practically every announcement that the health authorities have put out regarding COVID-19 related deaths has been accompanied by a statement saying that the individuals had underlying conditions. Nonetheless, many families have disputed this.
“After these declarations, which showed that Parnis is happy with the work he’s done, the Prime Minister should see that Silvio Parnis shoulders political responsibility by resigning.”
Malta’s COVID-19 numbers have continued to rise, with 75 new cases and 31 recoveries being resisted overnight. This brings the country’s total number of active cases up to 625.
