Bernard Grech Calls For Urgent Meeting With Prime Minister After Attack On Vessel Near Maltese Waters

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has officially requested an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Robert Abela following the attack on the vessel Conscience near Malta’s territorial waters.
“This is not a moment for partisan politics, but one of national unity,” Grech said in a public statement, stressing the need for all institutions to come together and prioritise the country’s stability and security.
Grech emphasised that the public expects unity in sensitive moments like these, and urged that all available information be shared, consequences discussed, and a joint direction agreed on to keep Malta safe.

The Conscience was en route to Gaza when it was struck by drones approximately 17 nautical miles off Malta’s coast. The attack caused significant damage, ignited a fire, and disabled the ship.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which organised the mission, accused Israel of the attack, though no conclusive evidence has been presented, and Israel has not commented.
The attack left the vessel without power, taking on water, and unable to sail. It is currently stranded just beyond Malta’s territorial waters but has so far been denied entry by Maltese authorities.
Now, several Maltese NGOs are calling for an urgent public demonstration, set for today 4th May at 5.30pm in Castille Square, Valletta, to demand that the Government allow the ship into port for emergency repairs.
