Bernice Cassar’s Murderer Arrested At 2am After Police Force Their Way Into Qrendi Home
The alleged murderer and husband of victim Bernice Cassar is in police custody following a 17-hour standoff.
Special Intervention Unit officers forcefully entered the home of Roderick Cassar at around 2.30am this morning following several attempts at negotiating with him.
Cassar was found holed up on the second floor of a block of apartments in Triq il-Kataġiniżi, Qrendi.
Flash blanks were used to disorient the man prior to his arrest.
The gun used in the murder was also found on the scene.
No one was injured in the arrest operation.
Cassar was murdered yesterday morning in Raħal Ġdid after an argument occurred at Kordin’s industrial estate. Her husband fled the scene and took refuge in the family’s home.
They have two children together.
After the murder, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri confirmed that Cassar had reported her husband to the police last May and the police subsequently pressed charges against him.
However, the courts proceeded at a sluggish pace and scheduled the first sitting for November 2023, although they issued a protection order in her favour when she filed an urgent application in August.
