Birkirkara Candidate Yana Borg Debono Grech Following In Her Mother’s And Grandfather’s Footsteps
Yana Borg Debono Grech is set to contest the Birkirkara local council election, becoming the third generation in her family to enter politics with the Labour Party.
Borg Debono Grech, 32, is the daughter of outgoing Birkirkara mayor Joanne Debono Grech and the granddaughter of former PL MP and minister Joe Debono Grech.
“My family has been a part of Birkirkara’s history for a long time, and I want to emphasise on culture, infrastructure, security, quality of life, and renewing traditions,” she said in her campaign message.
“Let’s work together to make Birkirkara the best village in Malta.”
Although this will be Borg Debono Grech’s first national election, she already has some political experience at president of the PL’s Birkirkara committee and a member of the PL’s executive.
She is one of 11 candidates contesting Birkirkara, which has traditionally been a political battleground. Eight PN candidates, an ADPD candidate, and a Partit Popolari candidate are also contesting, while current PL councillor Kaylocke Buhagiar is contesting as an independent.
