Birkirkara Residents Fuming After Losing Electricity For 12 Hours In Sweltering Heat
Residents across Birkirkara and Santa Venera have been left fuming after being unable to access electricity for multiple hours – some for up to 12 hours.
“Still no electricity in Birkirkara – and over 12 hours have passed,” one resident complained to Lovin Malta.
“Items in fridges and freezers are going to end up wasted and thrown away! People even store medication in their fridges which costs a lot of money! This is beyond ridiculous – and with the summer heat it’s unbearable!”
The lack of electricity is a result of a double fault in electricity cables, Enemalta said today, leaving parts of Birkirkara and Santa Venera without any power – and people aired out their thoughts on social media as the summer heat took its toll.
“Is it really too much to ask to have a constant, uninterrupted supply of electricity in 2022?” asked one woman online.
“How are people supposed to sleep in a heatwave and be rested enough to drive and work the next day? How is this still happening in 2022? Why can’t a rock sort out its electrical infrastructure?”
One man even uploaded footage of himself hooking up a makeshift generator to his fan and light.
Enemalta shared an update saying its technical team was hard at work repairing damage on a 11kV underground cable that developed last night.
While grateful for the update, some residents wanted more answers.
“Can we know for how long the power cut will be for? I hope it won’t take another eight hours,” said one person.
Have you been affected by this power cut?
