A man has pleaded guilty to subjecting a young woman to unwanted sexual acts and has been let out on bail under a number of conditions

Mohamed Mahmud Dirie, a 36-year-old Somali construction living in Birkirkara, was charged with committing a non-consensual sexual act after ejaculated on the woman while on a packed bus.

Last Saturday, Dirie was aboard the number 14 bus from Valletta to St Julians at around 10pm. The bus was full with people at the time of the act.

Dirie could not afford a lawyer, so the court appointed Yanika Bugeja to be his legal aid. She pointed out that he had pleaded guilty with authorities at an early stage, and cooperated with police.

He was released on bail pending his sentencing on 1st August. He must now must give a personal guarantee of €5,000 and sign a bail book three times a week.
