Black Lives Matter (BLM) Malta has called a protest for this Saturday at 6pm in front of Parliament in Valletta.

“Every week we learn of yet another incident of racial violence, often at the hands of those entrusted with a responsibility and duty to protect. Enough is enough,” the Facebook event description reads.

The demonstration is being organised as a reaction to the “ongoing and regular incidences of racial violence and abuse of power against people of colour.”

The most recent one was a brutal attack against a dark-skinned man by two Transport Malta (TM) officials.

Also this week, a black Uber driver, Arthur Izuakor, was also fined by a TM official for being “improperly dressed” despite him never being given a dress code, the fact that he was wearing a regular outfit, and that he wasn’t reported by any passengers.

“All members of the Maltese society, regardless of background or origin, deserve to be respected, and to feel safe in their community.”

“Where’s the respect? There is no ‘us’ without ‘them’.”
