Body Of Foreign Man Who Went Swimming in Miġra l-Ferħa Yesterday Located By AFM This Morning

The body of a 34-year-old American man living in the Netherlands who drowned yesterday was discovered off the coast of Miġra l-Ferħa, Rabat by AFM earlier this morning.

According to the Police, the man went swimming yesterday and soon after entering the water, began to struggle and called his friend for help.

His friend, a 38-year-old man from Portugal who lives in Sliema, attempted to rescue him but was unable to do so and had to swim to Ġnejna bay to make it back to shore.

Armed Forces of Malta began a search for the man immediately but were unable to locate him before nightfall and had to continue their search early this morning.

According to AFM, a helicopter spotted the body floating in the Miġra l-Ferħa area at around 9 am.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras is leading an inquiry into the death.

Investigations surrounding this incident are ongoing.
