Tragic news from Gozo, as authorities have confirmed the body of the 37-year-old English man who went missing while swimming at Ramla l-Ħamra has been found at sea.

The man had been swimming with an 11-year-old boy, also from the United Kingdom, when they found themselves in difficulty on Monday afternoon.

Police were alerted to the incident at around 1.15pm, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation involving the Armed Forces of Malta and the Civil Protection Department.

The young boy was pulled from the water and rushed to Gozo General Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.

Earlier today, the Armed Forces of Malta confirmed that the search had ended after the man’s body was recovered from the sea.

A magisterial inquiry and police investigations are ongoing.
