Bolt Cooperating With Authorities In Investigation Of Falsely Accused Driver’s Sexual Assault
Bolt is “offering full cooperation” to authorities investigating a case wherein a driver was falsely accused of raping a client.
A Bolt spokesperson told Lovin Malta that the company is “aware of this case” and offering “full cooperation to the police and regulators in the investigation of this incident”.
They added that because the case is currently with authorities, they are not prepared to comment further.
They also noted that “drivers are not Bolt employees”.
As such, they did not respond to the question of whether or not Bolt has got enforceable policies in place concerning whether or not drivers – who are not employees – are allowed to have (consensual) sex whilst taxiing passengers around in cars sporting the company’s name.
Police have since charged a 45-year-old woman for falsely accusing the cab driver of sexually assaulting her during a 3am journey home.
The court heard how the woman had booked a Bolt ride to take her home from St Paul’s Bay at 3.09am – which is when the driver took a detour and raped her near a caravan site, according to the woman.
The driver did not deny that they had engaged in sexual activities – but claimed that it was consensual. Since then, a court has remanded the woman in custody.
