Bonnici Brothers Company Wins Tender For Temporary Delimara Power Station

United Equipment Co Ltd (UNEC), a branch of the Bonnici Brothers Group, has been confirmed as the winner of a public tender for a temporary Delimara power station to help prevent a repeat of last summer’s power cut nightmare.
The temporary power station is intended as a backup plan in the eventuality that an issue occurs with one of the nation’s major power sources.
At just under €37 million, UNEC submitted the cheapest bid and Enemalta confirmed it as the winning bid today.
Questions have been raised as to whether UNEC meets the tender criterion for bidders to submit a list of its power plant leasing contracts over the past three years, amounting to a minimum value of €10 million.
Questions sent by Lovin Malta to UNEC and the Bonnici Group on which contracts it submitted haven’t been answered.

The Bonnici Brothers are one of Malta’s most prominent contracting companies and have previously been involved in a property deal with Prime Minister Robert Abela.
Last year, they and French recycling firm Paprec were selected as the preferred bidder for an incinerator project in Magħtab but this deal is currently being challenged in court.
Do you think Malta will manage to avoid blackouts this summer?
