Born On The Same Day, Bormla Couple’s Near 60-Year Marriage Is A Result Of ‘Love And Trust’

It was Sunday 30th March 1941 when both Paul and Victoria were born.

But this was just the beginning of a tight, personal bond between the two Maltese people. Years later, they would soon meet each other, fall in love and marry.

Now, 58 years later, Paul and Victoria Schembri stand as a testament to real love, deep connection and sticking together, through thick and thin, no matter what.

Paul, from Marsa, was a chef with the Royal Navy when he was invited to a wedding, and where he first laid eyes on Victoria, back in 1964.

Victoria loved animals and would feed cats across the streets of Cottonera – and when Paul entered her life, there was no looking back.

Anyone who asks them what the secret to having a relationship that spans six decades is, the answer is simple: “love and trust”.

When Victoria developed Dementia, the couple had a difficult choice – she needed to be placed in a home in Cospicua, but Paul didn’t want to leave her alone.

So he decided to enter the home as well, though he didn’t need to, just to be close to her. He left his home, and though he’s in good health, he spends his days with Victoria in the home.

“They can’t stand being without each other,” one of their sons, Emanuel, told Lovin Malta.

Ahead of their 59th wedding anniversary, on 3rd October, the Schembris story is a reminder of the power of love and the bond that forms between two humans who truly care for each other – and you can bet that they’ll be side by side, until the very end.
