A Maltese bouncer has been charged after punching while he was arguing with his girlfriend at a nightclub in Rabat last July.

Inspector Roderick Agius said the bouncer, Jean Paul Azzopardi, caused several injuries to the man, who experienced double vision after the attack on 31st July and is currently under the case of an eye specialist.

Azzopardi was also accused of breaching the peace, working as a security officer without a valid license and breaching two ongoing bail orders.

He is pleading not guilty to all charges.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella granted Azzopardi bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €5,000, with the suspect’s lawyer Franco Debono arguing that he hadn’t approached any witnesses in the month since the incident took place.
