Brace Yourselves: The First Week Of July Is Hitting Malta With Some Intense Heat
Heatwaves are not uncommon during Maltese summers, but only two weeks in, summer 2018 is shaping up to be an unbearably hot one if you happen to find yourself on the islands. Freak storms and strong winds aside, temperatures keep soaring, and the weather forecast for the first week of July has some bad news for people who already can’t deal with it all.
Perhaps unpredictably so, every single day this week is set to be sunny AF. This will help temperatures start climbing from 31°C today all the way up to 34°C by Thursday. Pair that with the mild winds and sky-high UV Index of 11, however, and the temperature will quickly feel more like 36°C. Yes; we’re already tantalisingly close to the 40s and it’s still the first week of July.
Even the evenings themselves will not offer much in the way of fresh respite, with lows of 21°C across the board. At their strongest, the winds this week will only go up to Forces 3 and 4 over Monday, quickly descending to 2 and 3 for the rest of the week.
The weekend is set to hold more of the same… if only slightly warmer.
The apparent temperature of 36°C will persist for both Friday and Saturday, only going down to 35°C on Sunday. Lows will even bump up to 22°C (does anyone remember when, not long ago, this was the highest temperature?). Friday might see the winds momentarily go back up to Force 4, but it’ll be back to the usual calmness by the next.
The UV Index will persist at a blistering 11, which means it’s definitely time to bring out (or stock up on) that sunblock. We all know what the first sunburn of the year looks and feels like, so here’s to not repeating that age-old mistake!
