A dental clinic in Żebbuġ belonging to Labour candidate Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando was seriously damaged in a “barbaric arson attack” last night, his daughter said on Facebook early this morning.
Jenny Pullicino Orlando reported that nobody was injured in the incident but if action had not been taken immediately, people could have been seriously hurt.
“Is this the Malta of hate you want to live in? Is this what the people who have served the country for decades deserve? I am disgusted and appalled,” she wrote.
Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, who currently serves as the chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology, is a controversial figure in Maltese politics who in 2011 campaigned successfully for divorce. He switched political allegiances in recent years after falling out with the Nationalist Party. In last week’s election, he ran on the Labour Party ticket but failed to get elected.
Speaking to Lovin Malta, Pullicino Orlando said only the door of his house was burnt because the petrol tank that was used “failed to explode”. He said the elderly couple next door would have likely been injured otherwise. The fire was put out by youths from a nearby band club.
Pullicino Orlando is also the ex-husband of Marlene Farrugia, the head of Partit Demoktratiku who was elected on the PN ticket after having left the Labour Party earlier in this legislature.
