The FKNK has just lost rights over the recreational areas of Miżieb and Aħrax after Malta’s courts ruled that the previously signed secret agreement is now null.

This comes after BirdLife Malta, Moviment Graffiti, Din L-Art Ħelwa, Friends of the Earth Malta, and Prof. Edward Mallia took the Lands Authority to court over the handover agreement which granted the FKNK rights over Aħrax and Miżieb.

Magistrate Lawrence Mintoff has now decided that the “agreement signed between the Lands Authority and the FKNK on 9th October 2020 is null, as it was not done according to the law”.

Back in October 2020, Malta’s government went ahead with an agreement to grant access to Aħrax and Miżieb to Malta’s hunting lobby the FKNK.

The agreement between the FKNK and the Lands Authority was signed in complete secrecy, without the presence of the press.

The agreements were signed by the then-Transport Minister Ian Borg, Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia, Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri, and Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Construction Chris Agius.
