The Prime Minister’s chief of staff Keith Schembri has resigned, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has revealed.

Schembri has been called in for questioning by the police.

Net News has reported that Schembri is currently in lock-up after Yorgen Fenech revealed fresh details on corruption cases Schembri may be involved in.

In the early hours of the morning, Lovin Malta reported that Police had received fresh information allegedly linking Schembri to a series of corruption scandals. Sources have said that Yorgen Fenech, the main suspect in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, is willing to give testimony against Schembri.

It is believed this is what Fenech’s reported request for a presidential pardon entails.

Schembri is on record admitting that the secret Dubai company 17 Black (which belongs to prime suspect Yorgen Fenech) was listed as potential clients in draft business plans for Schembri’s Kasco business group.

Net News today reported a late night meeting between Schembri and Muscat at the Prime Minister’s private residence in Burmarrad.

It is believed that Fenech will be arraigned later on today.
