A grow shop in Msida has been raided by the police over suspicion of selling cannabis, with thousands of euro worth of CBD products confiscated as part of an ongoing investigation.

Lovin Malta is informed that several boxes containing CBD flowers and other CBD products being taken by the police under suspicion that they may contain THC or break current regulations in some way.

An informed source told Lovin Malta that police visit came as part of an ongoing investigation that saw police enter several stores in Malta, not just the Msida store.

Products containing notable amounts of THC, the psychoactive compound in the plant, cannot be sold over the counter in Malta. Police will now investigate these claims.

The grow shop is one of many that opened on the island following last year’s liberalisation of cannabis laws.

Now, the owners face potential criminal charges alongside the dashing of any hopes they may have had to open a social club in Malta when applications eventually do open.

This is far from the first time an entity has been raided in Malta over similar suspicions.

In February, a clinic in Paola was raided, with its staff even being arrested and taken to the Floriana Police Depot to be kept for questioning.

The arrest of a doctor and his medical staff led to a public outcry on the island, with many wondering why authorities would speed ahead with the liberalisation of cannabis laws in Parliament, only to then hound people who made use of the new law via police raids.

The Msida raid is a developing story, with police investigations underway to see whether formal charges will be placed against the store owner.
