Prime Minister Joseph Muscat will remain in his role as the process for the next leader of Malta will officially begin.
In a broadcast message on the national station TVM this evening, Muscat said he had heard the nation’s call and had begun the process to find the next Maltese Prime Minister.
After this process, Muscat would resign as Prime Minister of Malta. A leadership election will be held on the 12th of January.
He said that he had promised to take the investigation into the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia to the end, and that “complete justice” was his goal. He said that three people were under arrest in connection with her murder, and one person was charged in the case.
Muscat also touched on some of his key moments as leader of the nation, saying his administration had created a “new middle class” in Malta.
