Labour MP Robert Abela is officially contesting the Labour Party’s leadership.

In a post today, Abela said that, with the “support of my family and with humility I say yes to the powerful call from the people to throw my nomination in to become the Leader of the Labour Party.”

“Together, we can keep the flame that makes us proud of our country and our party alive.”

Abela yesterday said he would “not make a pact with the devil” to gain a seat, and there had been speculation about whether he would end up contesting the leadership position.

He now faces off against deputy leader Chris Fearne who is the only person to also step forward in this race.
