PN MPs Alex Borg and Eve Borg Bonello attended a recent London conference for conservative thought leaders on the invitation of a British lord.

Borg confirmed with Lovin Malta that they were invited to the conference by Lord David Alton, which meant the MPs didn’t have to pay the registration fee although they paid for their flights and accommodation.

“Lord Alton follows us on social media and likes our style politics, and he invited us to the ARC conference,” Borg said.

Pro-life activist Miriam Sciberras also attended the conference with them.

During the conference, the Maltese MPs met and spoke to a number of high-profile conservative politicians, including Tory leader Kemi Badenoch, former Slovakian Prime Minister Eduard Heger, and former South African Opposition Leader Mmusi Maimane.

Psychologist Jordan Peterson and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy also attended the conference, but the Maltese MPs weren’t able to speak to them.

Borg’s attendance at this conference was recently criticised by columnist Kevin Cassar, who described it as a “gathering of right-wing populists denying climate change, attacking gender rights and celebrating Trumpism”.

However, Borg stated that the conference underscored the importance for European right-wing parties to remain steadfast in their ideology and identity so as not to lose ground to the far-right.

“I’m not saying we should go far-right, but we should discover our ideology and strengthen it.”
