British Tabloids Are Slamming England’s Performance In Malta

British tabloids have been mercilessly slamming the English team for their performance against Malta on Friday evening. Despite leaving the pitch in Ta’ Qali with a 4-0 victory after maintaining possession for 73% of the World Cup Qualifier, English fans were reportedly audibly disappointed throughout the entirety of the match, and Maltese fans – fairly hopeful.

Malta fought long and hard, keeping the ball from their net for an impressive 53 minutes. To say that Malta’s resilience has infuriated English football critics would be a gross understatement. Much like the English fans, sports critics are simply fuming.

British tabloids like The Mirror, for instance, said the following:

“England were slow, static and predictable at times. Malta held out for 53 minutes until Kane opened the scoring and effectively won the game.

But it was only when Malta – with players from Ebbsfleet and Luton in their squad – tired and ran out of legs that England really hammered home their extra class.”

And: “We’re f***ing s**t” shouted the England fans. And it was hard to disagree…It can be painful to watch England at times. Even when they win.”

ESPN FC pundit, Dan Thomas also commented fairly negatively during his post-match recap, agreeing with most other assessments: ” Four-Nil on paper, looks like a good result… but it wasn’t that good though when it comes to performance though, was it?”

While England still get their three qualifying points, and Malta remains without any – there is certainly something to be said about Malta’s spirit.
