Popular schemes involving government cheques, first-time buyers, and second-time buyers have been extended into 2023.

The details were revealed following the publication of the government’s budget for 2023.

Next year’s cheque will be the latest from an annual tax refund scheme, which is seeing some 250,000 workers receive cheques worth between €60 and €140.

It has become somewhat of a habit for the government to do so, and controversially dished out a sum to combat inflation during this year’s general election.

First and second-time buyer schemes refer to the exemption from income tax on duty on documents, capital gains and transfers of property.

It will be extended along with a grant to purchase in UCA areas of Gozo.

Beyond these, the government will also give every first-time buyer €1,000 a year over a ten-year period to help them pay their home loans, equivalent to a total of €10,000.
