Building Wall Collapses On San Ġwann Road

The upper level of a building  partly collapsed onto a road in San Ġwann, showering the area in bricks, debris and dust.

Police confirmed with Lovin Malta that the incident happened at around 3pm today in Triq San Ġuzepp, and that no one was injured in the collapse.

Bricks and dust covered the road directly in front of the building, which is undergoing works on its upper level. Nearby parked cars were covered in dust as residents looked on, however, no serious damage, be it property-wise or human-wise, was done in this case.

However, one person who witnessed the scene urged authorities and developers to ensure proper regulations on site as “this recklessness has already led to fatalities, and yet they keep repeating themselves”.

Malta has seen a number of horrific collapses, including one Santa Venera home collapse that led to the death of Miriam Pace, a beloved mother, where she was left under the rubble of her former home.

Since her death, Pace’s family have opened legal proceedings against the state, seeking compensation for having failed to protect her.
