Man Arrested After 38kg Drug Bust Worth €1.5 Million On Arrival In Malta

A 28-year-old Bulgarian was arrested in connection with approximately 38kg of suspected cocaine, heroin and cannabis to be trafficked in Malta.
The market value of the discovered drugs has been estimated to be around €1.5 million.
On 31st July, a successful investigation led by Malta’s Anti-Drug Squad broke an international drug trafficking ring.
The squad received information about a van that had just left Sicily for Malta and was allegedly carrying drugs. Upon arriving from Pozzallo, a dog from the police unit indicated that there is something suspicious in the suspect’s vehicle.
The van was then escorted by the Police Rapid Intervention Unit to the police garage in Floriana. It was then searched in the presence of the man and it turned out that parts of the vehicle had false compartments.
After the false compartments were dismantled, the drugs were found, divided into several bags. Around 5kg cocaine, 4kg heroin and 29kg cannabis were found.
Magistrate Noel Bartolo is leading an inquiry.
