Bus Commuter: It Took Me An Hour And A Half To Get From Mosta To St Paul’s Bay

A Mosta worker has reached out to Lovin Malta to express frustration at how she had to spend an hour and a half to wait for and catch a single bus from Mosta to St Paul’s Bay yesterday.

The worker said she waited 45 minutes at the Mosta Technopark bus stop. Two buses passed by during this period but they were both full, which meant the bus stop gradually got even more crowded.

“The consequence of this is that it’s even more difficult to take a bus since they are not going to be able to welcome all the people,” she said.

“Also, although it shouldn’t be relevant, I am a woman and the majority of the people taking the bus are men, big and aggressive men who don’t think twice before pulling you out of the ‘queue’ in order to get a place on the bus.”

When she eventually caught a bus, traffic conditions meant the journey to St Paul’s Bay took around an hour. And the worker said that while yesterday’s traffic situation was exceptional, she often has to wait for several buses to be able to go home.

She closed off with an appeal to the nation.

“I’m asking the people who chose the car to please avoid it if it’s possible, to start sharing the car with your colleagues or people going in the same direction, and reduce the amount of cars in the streets,” she said.

“I’m asking the people who take the bus to respect others, respect the spaces, respect the queues. We are all in the same situation.”

“I’m asking the Tallinja company to invest in increasing the routes. We are not animals or objects, we deserve to be treated as people.”

It is Transport Malta, not Tallinja, which is responsible for the design and frequency of bus routes.

“I’m asking the government to consider the possibility of putting limits on the use of cars in order to reduce the traffic and the quality of the air. What about circulation with alternating plates? Or limits on non-electric vehicles?”

“Just please, I’m really begging everybody, let’s make Malta a better place.”
