A popular Paceville restaurant which is part-owned by “Lilu King” Mohamed Ali Ahmed El Mushraty – has been given an eviction notice after having breached the conditions of its lease.

A Rent Regulation Board decision last week was issued against El Mushraty’s Tunisian-born business partner. The restaurant was issued a commercial license which had been issued in the Tunisian man’s name.

He claimed to have written to the landlord in 2020 seeking to remove himself as a party to the lease agreement, but was prohibited from doing so by a clause in the contract.

El Mushraty, a boxer and “self employed” entrepreneur was arrested in late May and is facing charges of tax evasion, money laundering and connections to organised crime.

He is also, according to Interpol wanted for murder in Libya. His lawyers have argued that Malta should not extradite him to Libya, because they believe that doing so would be likely to lead to a fatal welcome.

The Tunisian man – who’s name has been barred from publication by the court – has lived in Malta for over two decades, and took over the Paceville restaurant along with his business partner El Mushraty. They each owned a 50% stake in the business.

The business has 21 days to vacate the premises, after the RRB cited the landlord’s request for the lease to be dissolved after a breach of contract in June 2022 – when the premises were being used as a nightclub, causing a nuisance to the neighbours, rather than operating as a restaurant.

The landlord also claimed to be owed €127,148.34 for rent and utilities.

A representative of Hugo’s group spoke to Lovin Malta and issued this statement:

“Mr Mohammed Elmushraty was not evicted from the premises which was used to operate Middle East Bus since he was never a party to the proceedings which ordered such eviction due to the fact that he was not a party to the lease agreement which regulated the lease of the premises from which the tenant operating the premises was evicted.”

“Moreover, Mr Elmushraty does not form part of, nor does he have or ever had, any contractual or legal relationship with Hugo’s Hotel Limited, Hugos Group or any of its subsidiaries.”
