Cancelled: Mdina Grand Prix Involving Classic Vehicles Won’t Be Held This Year

This year’s edition of the Mdina Grand Prix, an annual race involving classic cars, has been cancelled due to a failure to find a solution when discussing logistics with the authorities.
The Valletta Grand Prix Foundation, which organises the race, said the decision to cancel the event followed discussions with local councils, the Police Force, Transport Malta and other authorities.
“While the committee welcomes the discussions which have taken place, it has become evident that performing all the necessary works and requested arrangements in time, particularly the logistical arrangements required for foreign participants is not going to be possible,” it said.
The Mtarfa, Rabat and Mdina local councils had publicly objected to the race, warning it would cause a severe inconvenience to residents and pose serious danger due to traffic congestion.
Despite the logistical headache, the Foundation said it is already looking forward to discussing the 2023 edition of the race with the authorities to ensure that all required permits are issued as soon as possible to avoid a repeat of this year’s scenario.
“The organisers would like to thank all the authorities who in any way assisted in finding solutions to the issues which have arisen this year. The Valletta Grand Prix Foundation will be issuing another communication confirming next year’s edition of the Malta Classic in the very near future,” it said.
