In the latest update to an ongoing saga, Chris Fearne’s former aide Carmen Ciantar has resumed her position as CEO of the Foundation for Medical Services (FMS) after being exonerated from the allegations that shook the healthcare sector two months ago.

“Today, two months after this horrible ordeal started, I stand tall. As a lone individual, as a woman, I managed to thwart the evil plans of dark and hidden forces which are much, much bigger than me,” Ciantar said in a statement published by the Times of Malta this morning.

The controversy began when a Pakistani newspaper accused Ciantar of accepting a substantial bribe from the individuals associated with Vitals Healthcare while the company was negotiating hospital deals with the Maltese government back in 2015.

The Daily Pakistan had alleged that funds totaling €443,500 were transferred to Ciantar from Gozo International Medicare Ltd’s account at the Emirates NBD Bank in Dubai.

From the outset, Carmen Ciantar vehemently denied any wrongdoing and emphasised that she was not employed by the Foundation for Medical Services during the time in question.

Ciantar opted to temporarily suspend herself from her role as CEO to fully cooperate with authorities and ensure a transparent investigation.

Soon after, a separate accusation surfaced on a Ukrainian blog, implicating Ciantar’s daughter in an alleged transaction involving a wealthy Russian individual who reportedly obtained a passport with the help of Health Minister Chris Fearne.

However, it was later revealed that the accusation had been recirculated by a Brussels-based website known for its association with disinformation campaigns.

Throughout the ordeal, Ciantar exhibited unwavering determination and commitment to clear her name. She voluntarily approached the Police Commissioner and the Magistrate scrutinizing the VGH and Steward contracts, offering her complete and transparent cooperation in all investigations.

After undergoing thorough scrutiny, she was ultimately exonerated.

In her statement, Ciantar expressed gratitude to her daughter, family, friends, and colleagues at FMS for their unwavering support during this difficult period.
