Child Grooming In Malta: 50% Of All Reports Result In Criminal Charges

50% of all child grooming reports in Malta in the past 12 years have resulted in criminal charges, newly-released figfiguresures shows.
Speaking in parliament, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri revealed that, police had received 20 reports of child grooming in the country since 2010.
Grooming refers to the technique used by paedophiles to entice minors into sexual relations.
Two people have so far been found guilty, with eight people currently in court facing charges.
However, some of those cases have been going on for years, with three of these cases dating back to 2015 and 2016.
Nine reports did not result in further charges, while one case from 2021 is still being investigated.
No reports of child grooming were received between 2010 and 2014.
This year, police received one report and charged one person in the process.
No details were given on the gender, age or nationality of the aggressors.
