Chocolate Island: Italian Chocolatiers Turn Malta Into A Cocoa Masterpiece
It’s the Maltese Islands – like you’ve never seen them before, unless you are an Italian chocolate obsessive.
The Chocolate Museum of Modica, Italy, recently showed off a high relief made entirely of chocolate – alongside the red and white Maltese flag – in a private room in the museum dedicated entirely to Malta.
Malta’s Planning Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi was even given a private tour of the room.
Accompanied by Professor Uccio Barone, he wanted to know the history of the first, and to date only, IGP brand chocolate in Europe.
The cities of Modica, Italy and Xemxija, Malta, were twinned back in 2016, strengthening ties between the two nations.
Interestingly, the Italian Chocalitiers mentioned Ħamrun and its Chocolate Festival, happening on 21st October.
Nino Scivoletto, President of the European Cultural Association ‘La Via del Cioccolato – The Chocolate Way’ informed Zrinzo Azzopardi that Malta had become a stage of the European Cultural Route – with Ħamrun’s Chocolate Festival putting Malta on the cocoa map.
And needless to say, Zrinzo Azzopardi and his family were able to enjoy some Modica PGI chocolate itself while visiting the sweet museum.
