The Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS), in collaboration with the Ministry for Inclusion and Volunteering, has taken a significant step to empower voluntary organisations in Malta and Gozo.

Announcing the Civil Society Fund 2023, the initiative aims to provide financial support to enable voluntary organisations to actively participate in European and international forums.

The fund, totalling €125,000 this year, has grown steadily since its inception eight years ago, with over one million euros already allocated to date. Voluntary organisations can apply for funding up to a maximum of €6,000, covering up to 80% of eligible expenses.

This financial assistance will facilitate various collaborative efforts, including involvement with foreign associations, networks, and federations, attendance at conferences and meetings, and specialised training on European dimensions.

Applications will be accepted through the digital platform, starting from Monday, 17th July until Thursday, 7th September 2023. It is crucial for voluntary organisations to seize this opportunity to secure funding and actively participate in the international community.

During the announcement of the fund, Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli emphasised the government’s commitment to bolstering the human resources of Maltese and Gozitan voluntary organisations.

She stressed the importance of these organisations engaging actively and collaboratively not only at the local level but also on the European stage. By doing so, they can actively contribute to discussions relevant to their areas of expertise and make their voices heard.

Chairperson of the Council, Gertrude Buttigieg, praised the scheme’s popularity among voluntary organisations, highlighting how it enables them to exchange ideas and collaborate with peers from various countries at the European level.

“This also helps them enhance their respective organisations’ capabilities and creates new opportunities, including access to European funding,” she said.

Mauro Pace Parascandalo, Executive Head of the Council, also announced the extension of the digital platform. The upgraded platform will not only streamline the application process but will also facilitate smoother fund management for successful applicants. He assured voluntary organisations that the Council will provide detailed guidance on the platform’s functionality in the coming weeks.

The financing scheme of the Civil Society Fund (CSF) stands as a remarkable initiative by the Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector, striving to promote active engagement in the European and international arena. As voluntary organisations play an integral role in their respective communities, this funding opportunity can significantly enhance their capacity and further their impact on a global scale.
