Collar Engraved With Paulina Dembska’s Name Added To Sliema Cat Statue In Her Memory
The Sliema cat statue now has a collar featuring a heart engraved with the name of Paulina Dembska, marking the third anniversary of the young Polish woman’s brutal murder.
Three years ago, the lifeless body of the 29-year-old was discovered in Sliema’s Independence Garden at 6.30am.
She had been raped and murdered, allegedly by 21-year-old Abner Aquilina, who is still awaiting trial.

The photos of the statue were shared by Matthew Pandolfino, the artist behind the iconic sculpture.
“The cat sculpture is now wearing a necklace with her name engraved, in the garden where her life was tragically taken. A small tribute to honour her memory and her love of cats,” Pandolfino wrote on his Facebook page.
Paulina was one of the cat feeders at the Sliema garden where she was found dead where she often fed and took care of the cat colony.
Paulina’s murder sparked a nationwide outcry and led to the introduction of femicide into Malta’s Criminal Code.
Rest in peace Paulina.
