A car accident on the main road cutting through Victoria, Gozo has left several people injured as traffic piles up in the area.

A police spokesperson told Lovin Malta that the accident happened at roughly 2.30pm after two cars, a chauffeured van driven by a 23-year-old from Marsaskala and a truck driven by a 34-year-old from San Lawrenz, collided along Triq Ir-Repubblika in Victoria.

Passengers in the van and the two drivers have been taken to the hospital.

Their present condition is as yet unknown.

People on the scene told Lovin Malta that the crash happened near the Duke Shopping Complex.

Meanwhile, there appears to be damage to cars and motorcycles parked in the vicinity of the crash.

Motorists are currently requested to avoid the area.
