Come On My Podcast To Discuss Budget, Red Briefcase And Colonialism, Jon Mallia Urges Franco Debono

From Adrian Delia to John Rizzo, Jon Mallia has had some pretty high-profile guests on his podcast but he’s having a little trouble with his latest invitation.

It all started when lawyer and former PN MP Franco Debono drew comparisons between Rishi Sunak’s appointment as UK Prime Minister and Maltese Finance Minister Clyde Caruana’s choice of a new red briefcase for the budget speech.

“A man with Indian ancestry [Sunak] has become PM of the UK, turning colonialism on his head. Meanwhile, [Caruana] has brought out a red Budget briefcase, with British colonial connotations.”

“We truly have small minds. We aren’t goats who can be fed with clover, we have minds that are being insulted.”

Jon Mallia then invited Debono to his podcast show Il-Podcast ta’ Jon to discuss the issue further but Debono wasn’t having any of it.

“If I am to consider coming onto your podcast, you must swear on the cross that all your earnings from it will go to charity and not your pockets,” he said. “Forget making money off my back, bro.”

However, many of Mallia’s supporters criticised Debono for his curt stance and for setting conditions that he hadn’t set when accepting a recent NET TV interview.

It wasn’t long before Debono came up with a counter-proposal.

“I’m inviting Jon Mallia to a friendly discussion that will be uploaded on both my blog and his portal,” he proposed, suggesting that renowned journalist Peppi Azzopardi could act as moderator.

So it looks like Debono is at least open to the idea of speaking to, or even debating, Mallia, so long as he can upload the podcast to his own platform too.

We’ll now have to wait for Mallia’s response but many people are clearly excited at the prospect of a Jon-Franco podcast and would love to see it happen.

Should Franco Debono accept Jon Mallia’s request?
