The compilation of evidence against Yorgen Fenech, the Tumas Group businessman charged with being an accomplice in the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, has been moved to tomorrow.

Confusion was the overriding sentiment of what was meant to be the start of compilation of evidence proceedings against Fenech, with journalists, lawyers, and the Caruana Galizia family camped outside the courtroom only being informed of the news at 9am.

Magistrate Nadine Lia is presiding over the compilation. However, the Caruana Galizia family and Yorgen Fenech have already filed separate applications for her recusal given that her father-in-law Pawlu Lia works as a lawyer for Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and his former chief of staff Keith Schembri.

After his arrest, Fenech implicated Schembri in the murder of Caruana Galizia, triggering a political crisis.

Later today, Melvin Theuma, the suspected middleman in the assassination, is expected to testify in a separate sitting at 10:30am. It is as yet unclear whether this will be moved. However, if he does testify, then Lovin Malta will be running a live blog of the hearing.

Theuma, who is spilling the beans on the murder in exchange for a presidential pardon, is testifying in the case against the three men accused of carrying out the murder, George Degiorgio, Alfred Degiorgio, and Vince Muscat.
