Malta’s cost of living, the traffic situation, and the influx of construction are the top three issues that are most concerning young Maltese people between the ages of 16 and 34.

These are among the most salient outcomes of misco’s latest survey on public concerns, a survey carried out to gauge the level of public concern on a range of issues.

93% of respondents in the 16-34-year-old bracket consider the cost of living as their top concern, 92% are concerned about the traffic situation, 85% are concerned about construction, 80% about the environment, 77% expressed concern about the issue of corruption, 54% on education and 42% about health.

A look at the general results of the survey conducted between 18th and 20th May shows that the traffic situation and the cost of living are currently the top reasons for concern for most according to the general public.

In fact, 87% expressed concern about traffic, 83% of respondents expressed concern about the cost of living, 80% of respondents expressed concern about construction, 72% on the environment whilst 71% stated that they are very concerned or fairly concerned about corruption.

Additionally, 43% of respondents are very concerned or fairly concerned about the health sector in Malta and 45% are concerned about the education sector in Malta.

“A deeper analysis of the data according to gender showed us that concern on the health sector and traffic is fairly similar between males and females but on the other hand, the level of concern among females about education, construction, the environment, cost of living, corruption is higher than the level expressed by males,” Lawrence Zammit explained, founder and director of misco.

The infographics below provide further information on the level of concern expressed by respondents on each of these issues.
