Court Case Against Police Officer Accused Of Leaks Will Be Heard Behind Closed Doors
The court case against Cherise Camilleri, a police sergeant who has been charged with leaking confidential information about police raids, will be heard behind closed doors.
Following a request by the prosecution today, magistrate Gabriella Vella ruled that the compilation of evidence be held behind closed doors due to the nature of the charges.
PS Camilleri, a 28-year-old former Drug Squad officer, has been hit with a range of charges, including leaking confidential information, accepting bribes, and promoting a criminal organisation.
She is pleading not guilty.
In earlier sittings, it emerged that the police grew suspicious when a planned robbery of a private resident didn’t materialise.
Data from Camilleri’s phone indicated that she had passed on information to one of the suspects, 30-year-old gym owner Ruud Buhagiar.
Buhagiar has been charged with bribing Camilleri and is also pleading not guilty.
