21-Year-Old Cyclist Allegedly Rammed And Punched By Truck Driver In Swieqi

A 21-year-old cyclist was allegedly rammed and assaulted by a truck driver along a residential road in Swieqi.
Environmental NGO Rota has received reports from eye-witness detailing the assault, which happened alongside Triq il-Keffa.
“A witness stated that a white modern pick-up truck was driving extremely close to a person riding his bicycle. The pick-up truck then aligned itself with the cyclist and the two got into a verbal argument,” a representative from Rota told Lovin Malta.
“The pick-up driver then rammed the cyclist, which caused the cyclist to fall to the ground. The driver then got out of his truck and started to repeatedly punch the 21-year-old.”
A witness tried to separate the two, as the cyclist was seen stumbling while he tried to get away from the truck driver.
They also detailed how the male aggravator, which has been described as close to 40 in age, average height, and stocky, tried to have another go at the 21-year-old.
“The 21-year-old was left disoriented and in a mess. A police report was filed however no number plate was identified by the witness. The police are now looking at nearby cameras.”
Lovin Malta reached out to the police, with a spokesperson confirming that a report was lodged yesterday afternoon and police investigations are ongoing.
The incident occurred in a residential area, where the maximum speed limit is stipulated to be 30km per hour.
“A bicycle travels at 20km per hour and the pick-up driver had no need to pressure the cyclist, threaten him with his vehicle and ultimately resort to beating him up,” Rota lamented.
